Renee
Todd grew up on the
Eastern Shore of Maryland and started singing in a church
vocal ensemble at the age of 5. In 2nd grade, Renee started
piano lessons for 5 years and in the 4th grade joined the
school band and began playing trumpet. In high school Renee
continued with her instrumental music studies becoming section
leader, and then drum major. At that point she decided to
major in music education. She received a music scholarship
to attend the University of Maryland studying trumpet with
Emerson Head and Majoring in Music Education. Renee followed
the same path as in high school, becoming section leader,
then Drum Major of the Mighty Sound of Maryland and principal
trumpet in the U of Md. Symphonic Wind Ensemble. During her
graduating year in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, she received
the Otto Siebeneichen Outstanding musician award.
Bound to teach on the high school
level Renee went to Beckley, West Virginia and led The Shady
Spring High School Band and The Stratton Junior High Band for
3 years. Under her leadership both programs received straight
I’s at state concert festivals and competed in numerous
marching band competitions receiving 1st place in their divisions.
Upon leaving West Virginia and moving to North Carolina, Renee
accepted a general music position on the elementary level and
continued working with middle and high school students privately.
Renee has been playing cornet in the Triangle Brass Band for
4 years and currently performs or has performed in the North
Carolina Wind Orchestra, Triangle Wind Ensemble, Raleigh Civic
Symphony, Raleigh Concert Band and several brass quintets, as
well as playing in churches and weddings. She taught general
music at Parkwood Elementary in Durham for 2 years and Dillard
Drive Elementary in Raleigh for 9 years, where she was chosen
by her colleagues as Teacher of The Year in 2001. Renee is currently
very excited about her position beginning a new band program
at one of Wake County’s newest middle schools, Wendell
Middle.
Renee resides with her family
in Raleigh, NC. In the summer for fun she likes to travel, garden,
and spend time visiting with extended family in Maryland.

Cary Jones grew
up in a musical family in Riviera Beach, Florida. The third of
four girls, competition was always a factor. Her father was a
jazz pianist, mother a classical pianist who won the presitgious
Baldwin National Piano Competition; all kids played piano and
string instruments throughout school. Cary started playing french
horn when she found her asthma forced her to have to learn how
to breathe differently. Thus began the long, yet fun, journey
through the Summer Camps at the University of Miami with Frederick
Fennell, the Brevard Music Center with Henry Janiec and multitudes
of famous guest artists, the Spoleto Festival in Charleston,
and the decision to attend school in the Carolinas. She received
a Bachelors in Music and Music Education at Converse College
and a Masters in Music at University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
She studied horn under Elizabeth Bobo, Dorothy Bennett, Gayle
Cheseborough, Warren Gref, Robert M. Barr, and Jack Masarie.
She has performed with the Spartanburg Symphony, Greensboro Symphony,
Winston-Salem Symphony, Durham Symphony, Raleigh Civic Symphony,
and has performed in many area schools in the Triad and the Triangle
with brass and/or woodwind quintets to teach students the joy
of different kinds of music. Since french horn players play tenor
horns in this group, she has had to learn how to master this
unusual instrument.
Cary joined the Triangle Brass
Band during the Jack Stamp era in the 1990's. She has served
on the Board of Directors and has been both Treasurer and Vice
President during some of her years with this phenomenal group.
When she's not working on publicity and programs for the Band,
she also volunteers with other non-profit groups.
Cary currently resides in Durham.
Her hobbies include scuba diving, stained glass art, playing
golf, and getting out on her jetski!
